Special Guest – Paul Sturgess – Monday, 14th January 2019

10 January 2019 (by Jodie Binch (Jbinch))

On Monday 14th January 2019, we are pleased to announce that we will be having a special guest in school.

Standing at 7ft 8 inches, Paul has represented numerous top clubs in Britain, as well as playing for the highly talented Harlem Globetrotters.

Paul Sturgess will be in school throughout the day, giving an insight as to what it is like to be ‘Britain’s tallest man’ and a professional basketball player.

The aim for this visit is to provide pupils with a once in a lifetime opportunity and to leave a lasting legacy, which will encourage pupils to become more active. He will be running an assembly to the whole school and giving pupils the chance to ask questions about life as a record breaker and professional athlete, therefore it is encouraged for pupils to do some research at home. Sessions will be ran with KS2 throughout the day and KS1/foundation will get to witness and possibly try some skills.

The pupil leadership team have voted that as well as basketball, we are going to turn it into an active day, with all pupils running one lap of the field, with a certificate for the winning girl and boy pupil from each class. We would like pupils to come dressed in their sports clothes or PE kit.

Kind Regards

Mr Derbyshire
