Woodland View Primary School

Promoting British Values

At Woodland View Primary, we take our responsibility to prepare our children for modern life in Britain, very seriously.

We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos of our school.

Our school makes a conscious effort to give our children exposure to wide experiences beyond our local community and has a values based behaviour system to embed the ideas that we hope will create caring and understanding citizens that embrace each others differences.

Mutual Respect

Respect is one of our new core values and this is an important pin around which a lot of our behaviour work pivots. We pay explicit attention to this in PSHE and assemblies. We cover self-respect, choices and respect for others including animals and the environment.

Tolerance of those with different Faiths and Beliefs

Tolerance is another of our core values.  Our community is one that is of predominantly white British make up and so it is all the more important that our children have broad experiences outside of the school grounds that teach about the make up of modern Britain and promotes an understanding of different Faiths and Beliefs.

Democracy

The children of Woodland View Primary see democracy borne out in a whole variety of ways and see it as being an essential part of team work.

Rule of Law

This is shown by our work on school rules and values. Children have discussed how rules can change and that different religions have guiding principles which can be seen as law.

Individual Liberty

All values at Woodland View begin with discussions about the self. We work hard so that our children see their importance and have self worth and self respect. We strongly encourage independence and the right to choose.
