Letter to Parents - June 3rd - LEA

3 June 2020 (by Jodie Binch (Jbinch))

3rd June 2020

Dear all,

I am writing to clarify our position after the letter sent at the weekend. I am also sending out a letter from Nottinghamshire County Council which shows that, late on Friday afternoon, they sent correspondence to school that said Unions were not reassured that schools were safe to open and so had threatened to report schools that opened, without their consultation, to the Health and Safety Executive.

I immediately emailed our detailed risk assessments to unions, with the hope that I would receive some feedback and still be able to open more widely on Monday 1st June as planned. On Saturday morning, I had still received no correspondence from unions (that wasn’t an automated reply) and so I made the decision, with senior leaders and the Chair and Vice Chair of Governors, to delay opening by a short time in order to ensure consultation had taken place with unions.

This was to stop our school being reported to the Health and Safety Executive which could have delayed opening even further; it was in no way because we weren’t ready. We were, and still are, fully prepared and ready to reopen to more children and a letter will come out tomorrow detailing what this will look like and what to do from Monday 8th June, when we will be reopening to Reception children only, as previously planned.

Best wishes,

Mrs Grey
