Forest Schools - Butterflies

11 September 2020 (by Jodie Binch (Jbinch))

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year your child will be taking part in Forest Schools. The sessions will begin on Friday 18th September and will then run every Friday morning throughout the academic year. Sessions take place within our school grounds.

What is Forest Schools?

Forest Schools is a fun, exciting way to learn in our outdoor setting. It is proven to improve children’s confidence, self-esteem and communication skills, as well as giving them an opportunity to have lots of fun! We encourage children to develop practical skills such as using tools safely, building shelters, lighting campfires and learning about how to look after natural habitats and environments. All activities are led by a qualified Forest School Leader.

What will my child need?

Forest Schools will take place throughout the year in all weathers so please can you send your child wearing some suitable clothing.

For example:

  • A warm pair of old trousers (eg, jogging bottoms)
  • A warm jumper or fleece
  • A pair of wellies or walking boots
  • On cold days - extra socks, hat and gloves

We have enough waterproof coats for every child to wear but children are welcome to bring their own from home. If your child has waterproof trousers these will also be useful on wet days.

Children WILL get dirty so please only send your child to school with clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy. Children will also need a change of clothes to wear after the session (this does not need to be school uniform).

If you have any questions please speak to myself or Miss Haywood.

Many thanks,

Mrs Hardy – Forest School Leader
