Woodland View Primary School

We want all children to develop into confident and competent mathematical thinkers and to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge in a range of challenging and stimulating situations.  Our aim is that all children develop a positive and confident attitude to mathematics, enjoy mathematics and reach their full potential as mathematicians.

We work to ensure that the children build confidence and mental fluency in all mathematical areas. Use of concrete tools enables children to build their understanding.  Our maths work is mainly centred around Focus Maths. Our maths is based on “challenge by choice” and children move through banded questions on a daily basis. As they move through the bands, they move onto reasoning and problem solving questions. On one day a week, children work on specific problem solving work.

Each week there is a new area of the maths curriculum to work on.

In addition to that, children have daily times tables practice and mental maths practice. The school also uses Times Tables Rockstars for children to practice their multiplication skills. This is also available for children to use from home.
